$$$ chew toys

Yep Baby K finally discovered his hearing aids and he thinks they taste great. I knew this day was coming but I think was in denial. I'm kicking myself for not ordering the Hanna Andersson pilot caps that all the other mothers suggested sooner. I ordered one but I may go crazy before it comes in. We have been using the huggie aids but he has been a pro at ripping them off in two seconds flat. I find them difficult to put back on and K usually has a fit, so they are not quite working for us.

So here we are getting our second pair of hearing aid molds done. Old reliable(what we named his paci),toy and we're good to go!

Kemper hasn't really shown us that he is getting any benefit from his HA's so it's been hard finding the motivation to keep putting them on. I find myself putting them on later and later and taking them off earlier and earlier. On October 1st we are going to one of the many cochlear implant evaluation appointments and they will test exactly how much benefit he is receiving from them.

Shortly after taking this picture he had a melt down, he was done with having his ears messed with. Or maybe pink is just not his color!

I remember those days. I was in the same boat, putting the HAs in later in the morning and taking them off earlier in the evening. Sometimes I even took them off at 4:00. The feedback drove me crazy! I don't know what your audi says, but mine said since she was getting much benefit from the aids (we had already had a sound booth test) that we could leave the aids in a few hours a day and that would be enough to stimulate the hearing nerve. We wanted to keep the nerve stimulated so it would be ready to accept sound with the CIs. We've been really luck that Lily hasn't tried to take the CIs off. Probably because she can actually hear now! Good luck. The Hanna Andersson caps are definitely worth it!

I meant to write that Lily was NOT getting much benefit from the hearing aids. :)

At his young age it's definitely hard to tell what benefit, if any, he is getting from those hearing aids. But with time and therapy you may start seeing some responses, so please keep those hearing aids in! My David kept pulling them out too, but we tried always to keep at least one in at all times. 6 months later, we have our CI surgery scheduled, but David is responding very well to sound...and he hasn't pulled out his aids in months. You just never know.

Yes, expensive chew toys. Now with 1 CI and 1 HA, he still enjoys chewing on the HA. I had little motivation to wear them either, and right before surgery, he didn't wear them at all. He's doing just fine now too :)

Both of my cute Deafies have been hearing aid eaters. Little Guy is the WORST, though. I know Linda really likes the caps you talked about, but I'm a cheapskate. I discovered with the Beast that bandanas also work GREAT. I fold them so they look like a sweat band. (Does that make sense?) I tie them over his ear, making sure to leave the microphone part uncovered. If you tie it tight enough, it takes them MUCH longer to get the aids out. And, with bandanas as cheap as they are, you can have one for every occasion.
